ASIDE Cardiovascular, Volume 1, Issue 1 (2026), published on 1 June 2026, launches the journal with a group of population-level mortality analyses and a detailed surgical case report, spanning cardiorenal disease, hypertensive heart disease, cardiac arrest and cardiomyopathy, congenital heart surgery, and respiratory infection in cardiovascular disease.

Four retrospective analyses of United States national mortality data examine long-term trends in atrial fibrillation with concomitant renal disease from 1999 to 2023, a twenty-five-year picture of hypertensive heart and renal disease drawn from the CDC WONDER database, cardiac arrest and cardiomyopathy related mortality and its disparities, and deaths from cardiovascular disease in which pneumonia or influenza was recorded on the death certificate.

The issue also presents a case report of hypoxemia following inferior atrial septal defect repair caused by iatrogenic diversion of the inferior vena cava to the left atrium.

Together, these articles reflect the journal’s focus on cardiovascular epidemiology, health disparities, and clinically instructive cases.
