    ASIDE Gastroenterology Vol. 1, No. 1 (2025), published on 1 May 2025, is the inaugural issue of the journal and brings together practice-focused scholarship across therapeutic endoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease, upper gastrointestinal epidemiology, and pancreatology. The issue opens with a Letter to the Editor on the potential use of icosapent ethyl in the management of acute pancreatitis. Three original investigations follow: a systematic review and meta-analysis of dexmedetomidine as an adjunctive sedative in patients undergoing endoscopic submucosal dissection, a systematic review and meta-analysis of mycophenolate mofetil for the treatment of resistant inflammatory bowel disease, and a retrospective study of the epidemiology and determinants of Helicobacter pylori–negative gastritis. Completing the issue is a case report describing use of a Trapezoid RX wire-guided retrieval basket with the Alliance™ II inflation handle in the treatment of Bouveret syndrome, a rare clinical entity. The issue opens with an Editorial on equitable adoption of emerging GI therapies, followed by an original investigation of mycophenolate mofetil use in inflammatory bowel disease and a retrospective analysis of biliary complications among jaundiced patients with alcohol-related hepatitis. Two evidence syntheses address procedural and pediatric care: a systematic review and meta-analysis evaluating sodium alginate and mesna as adjuncts in endoscopic submucosal dissection, and a systematic review assessing the efficacy and safety of tofacitinib in pediatric ulcerative colitis. The issue includes a prospective study exploring alternative gastrointestinal diagnoses among patients meeting Rome IV criteria for irritable bowel syndrome or functional diarrhea referred to secondary care, alongside a systematic review and meta-analysis evaluating liver transplant outcomes in lean versus non-lean patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease. Three case-based contributions further enrich the issue by highlighting unusual and educational presentations: pancreatic rest complicated by Actinomyces gastric abscess, disseminated hydatid disease managed laparoscopically, and annular pancreas in an adult presenting with chronic pancreatitis and duodenal obstruction. The issue features three original investigations: a prospective study comparing outcomes of esophageal stent placement in patients with esophageal cancer, a systematic review and meta-analysis evaluating the impact of vonoprazan on tacrolimus blood levels in transplant recipients, and a real-world retrospective study examining the association between endoscopic sphincterotomy and the risk of pyogenic liver abscess. The issue features an original meta-analysis comparing one-stage versus two-stage ERCP strategies in gallstone disease, highlighting outcomes related to common bile duct clearance, complications, and hospital stay. It also includes a scoping review of fish-bone migration to the liver as an uncommon cause of hepatic abscess, emphasizing diagnostic vigilance and source control. Two narrative reviews explore the expanding clinical implications of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease, including its cardiovascular, oncological, and liver-heart axis dimensions. The issue includes a retrospective cohort study examining the timing of esophagogastroduodenoscopy in adults aged 75 years and older with upper gastrointestinal bleeding, reporting no clear difference in short-term outcomes between early and delayed endoscopy while emphasizing the limitations of low event counts and potential selection bias.
