Dr. Hazem Abosheaishaa, MD, MSc

Dr. Hazem Abosheaishaa, Editor-in-Chief of ASIDE Gastroenterology, is a gastroenterologist and hepatologist with a clinical master’s degree in GI and Hepatology from Egypt, where he practiced prior to his current role as a gastroenterology and hepatology fellow at The Brooklyn Hospital Center. He previously served as Chief Resident during his Internal Medicine residency at Queens Hospital Center / Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where he was recognized for his leadership, teaching, and mentorship, and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society.

With more than 100 publications and presentations at major conferences such as DDW, ACG, and AASLD, and being selected as one of the 2024 Emerging Liver Scholars, Dr. Abosheaishaa brings both clinical expertise and a commitment to advancing innovative, high-quality research.

His vision for ASIDE Gastroenterology is to foster a platform that supports impactful, accessible research and drives progress in gastroenterology and hepatology.

Dr. Ahmed Salem, MD, MSc, MRCP

Dr. Ahmed Salem is a highly regarded gastroenterology and endoscopy specialist with extensive experience in treating complex GI conditions. He holds a master’s degree in Gastroenterology and Hepatology from Egypt and currently serves at Maimonides Medical Center. His expertise is further solidified by his attainment of the MRCP (Membership of the Royal College of Physicians), a mark of clinical excellence and dedication to the advancement of medical practice.

Dr. Salem has contributed significantly to gastroenterology through over 100 peer-reviewed publications and presentations at prestigious global conferences, including DDW, ACG, and AASLD. His research has helped shape modern approaches to endoscopic techniques and hepatobiliary diseases. Beyond his clinical and research achievements, Dr. Salem is committed to mentoring the next generation of specialists and promoting the global exchange of knowledge, with a vision to foster impactful research and drive advancements in gastroenterology and endoscopy worldwide.


Dr. Rajdeep Singh, MD, FACP

Dr. Rajdeep Singh, M.D., FACP, is a distinguished medical professional with extensive expertise in internal medicine and gastroenterology. Currently serving as an Assistant Professor at the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine, Washington, he is actively involved in training third and fourth-year medical students. Dr. Singh has an impressive academic and professional background, including a residency in Internal Medicine at Sinai Hospital, Baltimore, and clinical training at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He has made significant contributions to gastroenterological research, with numerous publications in renowned journals such as Gastroenterology, Arab Journal of Gastroenterology, and Integrative Medicine: A Clinician’s Journal.

His research focuses on gut microbiota, irritable bowel syndrome, and innovative treatments for gastrointestinal disorders. In addition to his clinical and academic achievements, Dr. Singh has served as a peer reviewer for prestigious journals, including Springer Nature, BMJ, and BMC Gastroenterology. Dr. Singh’s broad experience, leadership in professional committees, and passion for medical education exemplify his commitment to excellence in healthcare and research.


Dr. Khaled Elfert, MD, MRCP (UK)

Dr. Khaled Elfert is a gastroenterology fellow at West Virginia University with extensive clinical experience in internal medicine and gastroenterology.

Throughout his career, he has been actively involved in medical research, contributing to numerous peer-reviewed, PubMed-indexed publications on topics such as endoscopic ultrasound, pancreatic disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and liver disorders. He has co-authored book chapters and presented his research at major conferences, including Digestive Disease Week. In addition to his research work, he previously served as a Chief Resident and Internal Medicine Resident at Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar and SBH Health System in New York, reflecting his strong foundation in both clinical practice and medical research.


Dr. Ahmed Tawheed, MSc, MD

Dr. Tawheed is a consultant in gastroenterology and hepatology, holding both a master’s degree and a medical doctorate in hepatogastroenterology from Egypt. He also completed a fellowship in advanced endoscopic techniques at Fırat University in Türkiye.

He has over 55 international publications in some of the top journals in the field of gastroenterology. He has served on the editorial board for several journals, including BMC Gastroenterology and Therapeutic Advances in Chronic Disease. He has been a member of the editorial review board of Therapeutic Advances in Gastroenterology. Additionally, he has acted as a peer reviewer for several leading journals, providing nearly 50 peer-review reports.

His research interests include hepatocellular carcinoma, viral hepatitis, autoimmune liver diseases, and recent advancements in endoscopic procedures, such as ERCP, endoscopic submucosal dissection, and peroral endoscopic myotomy.


Dr. Abdellatif Ismail, MD

Dr. Abdellatif Ismail is an incoming gastroenterology fellow at the Cleveland Clinic Florida Hospital.
He is passionate about driving innovation in medicine and promoting health care access to underserved populations.
With long experience in Academic Internal Medicine, and strong commitment to medical education and research, he plays an integral role on the editorial board of the ASIDE journal where he advocates for the continuing advancement of medical research and education.


Dr. Mohamed Emara, MSc, MBBCh, MD

Dr. Mohamed Emara is a professor of Hepatology and Gastroenterology at Kafrelsheikh University, Egypt and he is also a consultant and Chief of Medicine and Gastroenterology Department, Alyousif Hospital, Alkhobar, Saudi Arabia.

Throughout his career, he has been actively involved in medical research, clinical practice and medical education. His publications in numerous peer-reviewed, PubMed-indexed journals covered many topics that are not limited to GI endoscopy, ERCP, H. pylori, GI bleeding, inflammatory bowel disease, and liver disorders. He has co-authored book chapters and presents his research at major conferences, including United European Gastroenterology Week. He had a full-time clinical practice in his tertiary referral university hospital and also the private sector serving many patients with different liver, GI diseases and general medicine. His medical education covers both under and post-graduates at Kafrelsheikh University.


Dr. Ahmed Alemam, MD

Dr. Ahmed Alemam is a board-certified gastroenterologist and an advanced endoscopy fellow at New York University Langone Medical Center in New York City.
His career interests include biliary and pancreatic disorders and interventions, endoscopic ultrasound, ERCP, and endoscopic mucosal resection.
Having served as the chief for both his internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship programs, Dr. Alemam has demonstrated strong leadership qualities, in addition to dedication to teaching and mentorship.
Dr. Alemam has contributed to numerous publications and abstracts, including presentations at national and local New York conferences.


Dr. Mohamed Abuelazm

Dr. Mohamed Abuelazm is a dedicated primary care physician and enthusiastic researcher with a passion for advancing evidence-based gastroenterology. Dr. Abuelazm graduated from Tanta University Faculty of Medicine, earning his MBBCh with honors. He has extensive experience in evidence synthesis, with over 100 peer-reviewed publications, including high-impact studies throughout gastroenterology, endoscopy, and hepatology. Recognized for his methodological rigor, his work has been honored by prestigious gastroenterology meetings, including the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) and Digestive Diseases Week (DDW).

Beyond research, he actively contributes to academic medicine as an evidence-synthesis mentor, having designed and taught courses on systematic review meta-analysis techniques.
As an editor for ASIDE Gastroenterology, Dr. Abuelazm brings his expertise in critical appraisal, statistical analysis, and evidence synthesis to support the journal’s mission of publishing high-impact, clinically relevant science.


Dr. Mohammad Alomari, MD

Dr. Mohammad Alomari is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), where he serves as Medical Director of both the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Program and the Bowel Ultrasound Program. He earned his medical degree with honors from Cairo University Faculty of Medicine in 2011, completed his Internal Medicine residency at Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital, and served as Chief Resident at East Tennessee State University. He completed a Gastroenterology fellowship at Cleveland Clinic Florida, attended the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation Visiting IBD Observership at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and subsequently undertook a year-long advanced fellowship in IBD at the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio.

Dr. Alomari has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications and serves as a reviewer for several leading gastroenterology journals. His research focuses on inflammatory bowel disease, with particular emphasis on clinical trials and the integration of intestinal ultrasound (IUS) into patient care. Certified by the International Bowel Ultrasound Group, he is the first physician in Arkansas to implement IUS in the management of IBD.
